Google has finally announced the Google Voice calling for Gmail inbox with which you can make VOIP calls to anywhere in the world on landline or mobile. With this announcement Google has officially stepped into the world of cheap VOIP calls. What does it mean for Skype ( the market leader ) and other VOIP call and services providers( Vopium, Vonage, Fring, Truphone and Nimbuzz ), well in my opinion Google is going to give them tough time.

Skype, dominantly being the “King of VoIP world” is considered to be the cheapest, popular and the most widely used app among users. But now with the significant rise of VoIP companies racing to take the call share the competition is becoming fiercer then it was previously. Among this we have a danish company Vopium determined to cut the call rates and rapidly move forward to take the bite of Skype cake by offering cheaper call rates and highly affordable worldwide calling packages.
Vopium is a free downloadable app available for all popular OS (iPhone, Symbian, Android, Blackberry, Windows mobile and Java etc). Last year according to “The Guardian” there has been 50 million call minutes via Vopium – a figure which is continuously increasing.
A mini review by ekstrabladet.dk has compared call rates by Skype and Vopium in almost 15 countries where Vopium is found to be cheaper in countries such as (Afghanistan, Australia, Brazil, Germany, Thailand, Sweden, UK, Somalia, Polan, Norway); where as in two countries (China and USA) the prices are same; and in (Russia and Iceland) Skype provides cheaper rates.
