Great News for all users of twitter, Mashable has reported that a new Twitter setting called “Tweet Media” is rolling out to some Twitter’s users, “strongly suggesting that the company will soon embed videos and photos in the stream.” . Using this feature you can just peak at your Twitter steam and look at how many people are sharing video and photos.

Tweet Media, as it’s called, was accessed by Mashable and others have been able to access under Twitter’s account settings, according to the report. Apparently, the system asks you whether or not you want to show photos and videos from everyone. It also comes with the following description of the setting: “By default, you’ll only see images and videos shared by people you’re following, and reveal those by people you’re not. Check this box to see media from everyone on Twitter.” See illustrated picture below.

In an update to the post, Mashable reported that the setting was eventually removed from their account.

However, they reached out to Twitter and got this response:

“We’re constantly exploring features and settings. What you saw was a small test of a potential consumption setting for inline media. We show inline media on our own iPhone and Android apps.”

Whether this functionality gets switched on for the millions of Twitter users or not, it’s pretty clear that the company is looking to improve the user experience.

People seem to think information they put on the internet is transient – here today, gone tomorrow. Increasingly, we are finding data doesn’t disappear when you delete it. It may be automatically saved by Facebook or Google.

You may think you got rid of something but it can come back to bite you. If you are 18, you don’t think about your 42-year-old self looking for a job or promotion. People don’t consider that long-term risk. I think this could become a serious problem in future. Young people seem very blasé about their privacy, but their opinions may change in years to come.

People should consider what information they are letting out about themselves and to whom. Even if you think you have secured your pages through Facebook, the data may be accessible through other routes like Google.

For professionals the problem is even bigger that increasing number of employers are scanning profiles of their employees and even candidates on social media network sites in order to find information not mentioned in their official profile. Increasing numbers of people have been sacked due to posting anti-company remarks on their profiles and also posting pictures of activities which their bosses think are improper. There is a strong legal background to these findings and even law enforcing agencies are effectively using Facebook and social sites to track activities and people who they think are dodgy and involved in crimes.

For kids and students, one reason of bad grades might be excessive time spent on Facebook poking their friends and posting pictures and videos. This result is of a study which shows kids who use social media network sites spend less time studying. According to an Ohio State University study released this week, Facebook users had GPAs a full grade lower than non-users. Facebook users also studied on average one to five hours a week, compared to 11 to 15 hours for non-users.

Then there are effects of virtual socialization where kids are only socializing using internet and are not engaged in real life activities and sports etc. which can result in personality issues and fears of real life. One cannot ignore the fact of cyber bullying and blackmailing where criminals and ill minded people use kids for their evil purposes.

Nielsen Online reported that people spend more time on Facebook than any on other Web site. The study also noted that 87.25 million U.S. users visited Facebook from home and work during June, and each of those people spent an average of 4 hours, 39 minutes and 33 seconds on the site during the month of 2009.

It is evident that Facebook and other social sites are addictive and usually people do not have clear business reason to visit them, usual reasons are to gossip and play addictive games.

Sometime back I wrote about 5 useful add-ons for Mozilla Firefox, the we also talked about creating a Persona for FF besides some easy and free tools for the world’s most loved browser. Firefox is gaining ground. I have now made a list of some useful add-ons for sharing with you guys, gals included The vary in category from getting updates on weather to finding a websites original location etc. Read on for some rich web surfing experience.

 1-Click YouTube Video Download. This add-on does exactly what its name says, it downloads the YouTube video that you are viewing with a single click in FLV, 3GP modes and saves it to the desired location on PC. The best part is its simplicity and ease of use. Upon installation a small button will appear on the left bottom window of the YouTube video screen, all one has to do is click it and Presto! Try it out, it is available here oh and watch the screenshot below.

FlagFox. The little add-on sits in your address bar and displays the location of the current website server in the shape of a country flag. It also provides access to detailed location and webserver information. This thing works by accessing the IP index contained within the extension.Click the Flag and it will display info like map of the location, ISP, local time etc through a GeoTool. Get it from here.

Weather Watcher Live. I would rather call it my personal Weather Station instead of the name assigned to it. Add it and configure it to view detailed weather info of the intended area in multiple formats like Celsius, Fahrenheit etc. The add-on displays a three day forecast with three icons on the desired area in one’s browser. A single click on the tiny globe will open up the infra red satellite weather picture of the whole area, whereas a mouse over will show the scene in a small window. Clipmarks. Bookmarks let us save a webpage’s location for later retrieval whereas Clipmarks in a totally new concept that lets users save selected text, images and even videos for viewing later or even sharing online with friends. Besides one can share his/her Clipmarks on Facebook and Twitter, save them on Clipmarks.com , post them directly to his/her blog, print them or even E-mail them. Download from this location.

The Mozilla Firefox RC2 is now available for download. As usual it is available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux in over 70 languages. The release notes can be accessed here and known issues are documented here. Some of the features of Firefox 3.6 RC2 are:

• They say the browser performance has improved considerably at startup.

If there is one E-mail service that competes with Google that is Yahoo and one search engine that dares to stare at Google well its Yahoo too. Yahoo has recently added a few applications that be used form within one’s mail box. Yahoo was previously offering a number of goodies in My Yahoo like a Calendar, weather forecast etc etc. But this thing is way ahead. this is something new and worth a try.

.io is an application that has been developed by drop.io. This lets users attach files up to 100 MB in size. But before you click the Allow just read the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy which says that your email or files might be stored by the drop.io team! Anyways privacy issues aside it’s a nice utility to have.

Automatic Organizer is an application that scans one’s email inbox and after that organizes, prioritizes and summarizes the emails stored. This helps users prioritize their emails from real people thus making users lives easier. In order to use this service you will have to Agree to the sign in permissions. After that the system will scan your inbox for real emails, coupons, receipts, shipping notices etc and will send you an email giving the details.

Yahoo Calendar Oh well haven’t we heard about this one before? Yes we have it is the same old Yahoo Calendar for managing one’s appointments.

Edit Photos. If you ever need to edit photos in your Yahoo Mail Inbox, Edit Photos from picnik will do it for you. In short one really doesn’t have to download the photos and edit them in an application like Photoshop etc. Simply launch the application in your Inbox and click Connect. After the usual Yada Yada sign in permissions one can opt for the premium version which costs something like $2.08 per month but why bother with that? The application will scan your Inbox for emails containing photos. From then on editing any pic is easy. One can rotate, crop, resize, sharpen, remove red eye and edit exposure besides saving and sharing the pics.

Evite is the electronic invite that lets one send an invitation from Yahoo Mail. The Invites list includes Birthday party, Bachelor party, Brunch, Lunch, Dinner party etc to name a few. A nice app I must say and very impressive too.

Flickr is an application that has been developed by Yahoo. It lets users share photos with friends and family using Yahoo mail. Sharing photos is as simple as pointing to the desired photo and clicking it.

My Photos is an application by xoopit.com which lets users organize their photos, see them and share them inside Yahoo mail. After the usual Yada Yada and activation of My Photos one can start using this nice utility.

Pay Pal. If you ever need to send money or even receive it form anyone in the world this application will let you do that from your Yahoo mail box. The person sending/receiving the money needs to have an e-mail address or a telephone number and that’s about all.

In the days when there was no Chrome from Google, Safari or even Opera in the browser arena Internet Explorer used to have almost 90% share of the web traffic. Netscape navigator used to be common then. Now things have changed a lot, IE is down to 62 % and Safari has a share of 4.46% of the total web traffic. Chrome however, has beaten Safari at its turf by getting an impressive 4.63% of the traffic. While this might not be much in terms of traffic but it certainly speaks of Chrome’s popularity since it was released just 16 months back. With these stats Chrome is the world’s third most used browser,  and the way it is gaining ground the time is not far when it might even beat the heavyweights and we know who they are .
