Well worry not,  InfoWorld’s Best of Open Source Software Awards (aka Bossies), chosen annually by Test Center editors and reviewers, recognize the best open source software for business users. This year’s top picks among applications include standouts in ERP and CRM software, BI and reporting, content and document management, search, and wiki collaboration. 1. Openbravo ERP

   Openbravo ERP is an ERP package that combines finance, sales, purchasing, and inventory modules. A free community edition and an extensive professional version are available through commercial license.

2. SugarCRM

   Still the best in open source CRM, Sugar community and commercial editions combine salesforce automation and customer support and offer easy extensibility through plug-ins. The professional and enterprise editions come with advanced features such as more sophisticated reports, workflow automation, a customer portal, and mobile access, though most of the sophisticated plug-ins also come at a price.

3. Pentaho BI Suite

   The Pentaho BI Suite bundles ETL, OLAP, reporting, and dashboards in a free community edition, with some advanced functionality, professional support, and software maintenance available through an enterprise edition. This year’s 3.6 release simplified report building, disconnecting the process from the underlying OS to allow users to format to any printer. A new drag-and-drop data pallet speeds the creation of reports, while new access to BI server functions through environmental variables means saying goodbye to tedious manual coding.

   Alfresco

   Alfresco Community Edition did its open source developers proud this year by becoming the first enterprise content management system to boast CMIS 1.0 compliance. Strong on both document management and Web publishing, Alfresco’s recent 3.3 release adds a rules library for content automation and more dynamic query options

5. Drupal – CMS for the Web

   Whereas a full-blown ECM like Alfresco combines document and Web content management, PHP-based Drupal focuses exclusively on the Web. The open source project combines a mature Web CMS with blogs, content syndication, discussion forums, community features, and extensibility through thousands of add-on modules.

    WordPress has always been an excellent entry-level blogging and content management system (CMS). With the release of the new version 3.0, WordPress finally merges the multiuser version into the main code branch, making it easier to host multiple WordPress sites on a single installation. Version 3.0 also adds easy navigation menu configuration, custom post types, taxonomies for easier customization, and APIs that let you add custom backgrounds, headers, and footers more easily than in previous versions

7. LogicalDoc

   The Java-based LogicalDoc document management system delivers speedy indexing and browser-based search into document libraries. On its own, LogicalDoc is rather a lightweight uni-tasker, with a plug-in for rudimentary workflow, but its simplicity masks the power of the underlying Apache Lucene indexing engine that doc searchers will love.

8. Wiki CMS Groupware

   Tiki Wiki CMS Groupware is a powerful, integrated, Web-based application. It can build and maintain websites, wikis, groupware, CMSes, forums, blogs, and bug trackers, as well as make them multilingual. While not as widely supported and adopted as MediaWiki, Tiki Wiki is easier to use for publications and documentation sites that are not appropriate for the classic wiki model that allows anyone to edit the content; in Tiki Wiki, a fine-grained role-based privilege system allows you to set up a site in which, for example, readers may leave comments (moderated or not) while editors can approve comments and create and edit articles. Revision tracking is turned on by default and can be enhanced by turning on a workflow system

9. Apache Solr

   While search engines have transformed the online world as we know it, there is no doubt that companies and research groups can be well served by running their own search engines and creating custom presentations of results. Solr gives them the tools to do this in a fast, scalable implementation that handles rich documents easily, and it can run on any platform that supports Java. It also offers distributed search, replication of results, and developer access via numerous languages and protocols.

Google has finally announced the Google Voice calling for Gmail inbox with which you can make VOIP calls to anywhere in the world on landline or mobile. With this announcement Google has officially stepped into the world of cheap VOIP calls. What does it mean for Skype ( the market leader ) and other VOIP call and services providers( Vopium, Vonage, Fring, Truphone and Nimbuzz ), well in my opinion Google is going to give them tough time.

Since Google is offering free calls to US and Candara on both landline and mobile from US and Canada till end of year 2010, that itself is a big deal and will certainly attract lot of people to use this service. But what about rest of the world ? It will depend on multiple factors as call rates, special call packages, voice quality, Add-on availability and International availability.

Below is a comparison I have performed between call rates of Google Voice, Skype and Vopium which is another VOIP call provider. I have highlighted the rates which are lowest or are distinct. See complete rate listing of Google Voice, Skype and Vopium A/S. Other serious competitors in VOIP arena are Vonage, Fring, Truphone and Nimbuzz which offer features like wifi calls, messenger, 3G mobile data support and mobile clients.

Well, as you can see above, the land line call rates are pretty much the same in Europe and selected places in the world, but Google has an definite edge in middle east and is offering cheaper rates for landline and mobiles. Similarly, Vopium has cheaper rates for Pakistan, India and few European countries making it also lucrative. It must be understood that both Skype and Vopium offer special calling packages which makes the call rates even cheaper to selected destinations.

In the end, the service with the best voice quality will be winner. We all know Skype for its excellent voice quality and it will be matter of time when we see how Google voice catches up in term of quality. Furthermore, Skype has clients available for majority of operating systems along with availability of mobile application clients which definitely gives it the edge. Meanwhile Vopium and other VOIP providers have their own markets.

If you are an Android fan and looking for a SmartPhone similar to that of Google Nexusone, well here is a good news. The answer is HTC Desire and it is available in Europe and other areas of the world in GSM form but now it has been launched in US with CDMA support by U.S Cellular.  The form factor is similar to that of Google nexus as I mentioned earlier, and its shape and feeling of this smartphone is fantastic. As you can see, these specifications are almost the same as the Google Nexus One with the dimensions almost the same as well. The LCD display is quite viewable outside and I personally like the physical hardware buttons much more than the capacitive touch ones on the Nexus One.

The HTC Desire is available now from U.S. Cellular for $199.95 after $70 mail-in rebate and 2-year committment.

Their Android data plans are $30 for data and $55 for data and tethering (5GB limit), with a voice plan. Voice plans start as low as $39.99 for 450 minutes up to $69.99 for unlimited national plan minutes. There are several plan options and their rates are very competitive.

Nokia has just revealed its X3-02 handset, which has standard 16-button keypad with a 2.4-inch QVGA touchscreen, now that’s excellent news for budget market.  It sports Nokia S40 on a 2.4-inch resistive touchscreen, the X3-02 also has a numeric keypad, 3G and WiFi, and will launch in Q3 2010 priced at around €125 ($161).

Other specs include an FM radio, 5-megapixel camera and a bundled 16GB microSD card.  It’s small, too, measuring in at 9.6mm x 106mm x 48mm and weighing 78g; all this in an aluminum shell; according to Nokia Conversations battery life is rated at five hours talk time or 17 days on standby.

This phone will be launched in countries like China, Ireland & UK, Russia, Australia & New Zealand, Singapore, Germany, Spain & Portugal, France, Mexico and Saudi & Yemen in the first phase
