Nokia C7 sports Symbian 3, NFC chip, will function as Credit card!

by Muzzammil Waheed on October 23, 2010

Nokia has brought its second Symbian 3 SmartPhone dubbed as Nokia C7. It is a SmartPhone with 3.5 inch AMOLED capacitive touch screen capable of displaying 360 x 640 pixels, 8mp Camera, TV Out, digital compass and GPS, WIFI, 3G HSPA,  and 8 GB of internal storage. Certainly there is no direct comparison with Nokia N8 in term of features but what special about this phone is that it has built in NFC ( near field communication) chip, which will allow this mobile to function as a credit card capable of making payments on the go.

This is the first phone which has this short range wireless NFC chip built in which allows the handset to communicate with other devices at very close range, just like swiping your phone over a kiosk to make a payment. Interestingly the software i.e. Symbian 3 is not right now operating this chip and it will be enabled in future with a software update to Symbian 3 OS. There are other challenges as well in the software and security area and the final result is yet to be seen.
