Lately new localized windows 7 themes have been unearthed and boy they look smashing. Using these themes is pretty straight forward and you can do it quickly by following simple steps :
- Navigate to C:\Windows\Globalization\MCT Where C is the system drive
- You will notice 5 folders for each localized themes. Note there that MCT-US folder is already included in your windows themes as “America“.
- Navigate into folder other than MCT-US and you will find multiple folders there depending on the theme complexity. However we are only concerned with the “Theme” folder here.
- Navigate into the “Theme” folder and you will find a single file with .Theme extention and filename consiting of location’s initial. For example in MCT-CA\Theme\ folder you will find CA.theme file.
- All you need to do is to double click on this file and windows personilzation dialog will open and this previosly hidden theme will be available and selected by default. It is important to note that the theme will appear in “My themes” group.
- Thats it. Repeat the above steps for rest of the localized theme folders and you will have all themes available. Easy does it.
In coming post I will explain the process of creating your own customized Windows 7 theme based on your own icon set, sounds, high res pictures of your own choice and color scheme. Windows 7 makes it a lot easier to do this. Check it out soon.
