PocketGear has acquired Handango, the announcement was made just a few days back. This might come as a surprise but the benefits are truly amazing, at least for PocketGear, quite simply because this lone move now gives it access to some 140,000 apps of various categories. This includes paid as well as free titles. This might as well be termed as the creation of so far the largest cross platform, open app store on planet Earth.
The two stores are known to have generated over $ 400 million in revenue resulting from sale of mobile apps. This they say is spread across 175 countries, and the variety of mobile devices supported is well over 2000 in number.
PocketGear’s developer base alone has expanded to some 32,000 strong giving it more variety and reach. This will help improve its stats further as the company has already worked in conjunction with Samsung, Microsoft, LG, Sony Ericsson, RIM, Verizon and AT&T. Simply put more developers and more companies mean more variety and hence more revenue. And remember this is for a variety of devices unlike Apple.
PocketGear supports supposedly all brands less the “i” category
Some of the brands under its belt are Java, Linux, Microsoft Windows, Android, Palm, Blackberry and the ever present Symbian.
PockerGear’s strength comes form its business model which supports developers more than other competitors. PocketGear’s developers get to keep up to 90% of the share as against 70% in case of other models. Besides this the company CEO Jud Bowman says it has perfected its systems in a big way and Handset manufacturers or carriers can now launch their own customized stores in weeks.

I guess this has to be the gadget of the year. No matter how much I surf for new gizmos this one gets the cake, I mean we have heard about wireless charging but this one beats them all. The device I am talking about is an RCA charger from Airnergy that harvests electricity form Wi-Fi signals to charge batteries. Now that is certainly cool, but wait there is more to it.
It was unveiled at CES 2010, and charged a BlackBerry from 30% to 100 % in about 90 minutes. All it needs is a Wi-Fi router or AP in the vicinity, if there are more than one off course the performance will increase. It also has a battery inside it so one can charge it and carry anywhere. It also has a USB for attaching to various mobile devices. Coming in summer it will cost around $40.

Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if Apple hadn’t released their much coveted iPhone, I mean what would be the yardstick then to measure or compare such smart phones with. Perhaps then there would have been more confusion or maybe it would have been easier, just buy the phone you like. Now RIM is launching a newer Blackberry called as Storm2. This is going to be a touch screen phone with a better response, practically users will be able to touch or type on two parts of the screen at a time! This perhaps is missing in the present day phones.
As usual WLAN is present and the phone also features tactile feedback on screen touches. This is a Quad band phone that also has HSPA built in to it. A GPS and related location based applications make it easy to find one’s location or even get directions. The Blackberry App World support is also provided for enthusiasts to download the required applications. The phone comes with Blackberry OS 5, improved browser and support for Google gadgets and Blackberry’s widgets. The phone has 256 MB of flash memory, 2 GB of storage space and up to 16 GB memory expansion via microSD card. A 3.2 MP camera adorns the screen and a bumper 1400 mAH battery to provide it the much needed juice. Oh and the screen size is a crisp 3.2”.

Did you know that your mobile set generates radiation whenever you are calling or sending a text message. Well it is true, and few scientists believe that this radiation can cause cancer of brain, mouth and throat, as body is absorbing the radiation while a person is in a call.
Recently green lobbyist the Environmental Working Group (EWG) has released its guide to Mobile radiation emissions. They also have ranked mobile phones according to their specific absorption rate (SAR) – an indication of how much radiation is absorbed by the body when the phone is in use.
According to this ranking the phone with least radiation is Samsung Impression and also falling in safest phone category is Motorola Razor V8.
On the other hand phones like VU204, myTouch 3g, Kyocera Jax S1300 are the most radiation emitting phones. Blackberry curve 8330 and Apple iPhone 3G also emits high radiation ( surprise surprise )
The site also gives tips about how to protect yourself from radiation such as :
- Buy a low radiation phone, using the guide above.
- Use wireless, wired headset or speaker phone
- Listen more and talk less ( this is kinda funny, as someone has to speak in a conversation )
- Hold phone away from body ( i wonder how one can do this, I mean we can do this in car or on desk but rest of the time.. its thought prone idea )
- Send text messages instead of talking ( makes sense and also cost effective, but more time is involved )
- In case of poor signals avoid talking.
- don’t let young children use phone too much unless very urgent.
- Avoid covering phones with shields as it causes more radiation emitting.
