Engadget just posted the leaks of hot and slickest upcoming Windows Phone 7 series phone by Dell known as “Dell Lightning”. Dell is going to launch this portrait slider phone ( full Qwerty keyboard ) in Q4 2010 , indicating this will be ultimate Windows Phone 7 series launch phone.

Dell-Lightning-1

This slick looking phone sports 1GHz QSD8250 Snapdragon processor, WVGA 4.1-inch OLED display, AT&T or T-Mobile network 3G, 5 megapixel autofocus camera, 1GB of internal flash ROM with 512MB RAM . Apparently it will have 8GB of storage on a MicroSD card (non-user-replaceable, we’re assuming), GPS, accelerometer, compass, FM radio, and full Flash support including video playback, what else we expect from a high end phone ? This is one real kick ass phone and will be strongly competing with EVO 4G, upcoming apple iPhone 4G and anything HTC has up it sleeves. The competition is just getting stiffer and hotter. Inspiron Mini 10v Notebook The official Chrome OS is still to be released, some say next year, so what all choices do we have? Wait for a year or just wait? well not for long the since folks at Dell have tinkered with the OS and have produced a hacked version of the OS (8 GB in all) which can be loaded in to a Flash disk for trying out Live, but in a Dell Mini 10v. This certainly comes as a surprise because just recently Google declared the project Open Source and the trend certainly has caught on rather fast.

The hacked version is available for download and instructions are also available online for users to follow. To do this one has to own a Dell Mini 10v though. So Mini 10v owners are the blessed ones or people who can afford and are dying to try out Chrome can buy to take the plunge. After downloading the image one will have to load the image on to a 8 GB thumb drive and reboot via the USB for previewing Google Chrome.

The OS boots up in under 12 seconds and is known to work well. Driver support may vary according to the model but since this hack is exclusively for the Mini 10v so owners of these machines will find no glitches hopefully except for the Wi-Fi which is known to show hiccups during operation. Anyways it won’t hurt to try out the OS on any machine just to experience its looks and response minus the depleted driver support.

Dell-Mini3 Dell is finally in the mobile phone arena with this little smart phone called as the Mini3. The device has a 3.5” screen size and runs on Android OS. According to Dell it is “the world’s smallest Dell”. The phone is going to be released in China through China Mobile and in Brazil through Claro. Other regions will also have it from various telcos.

The smart phone sports a 3 MP camera which might look a little out of place since most modern phones nowadays have a 5 MP cam attached to their faces. A tiny stylus comes bundled with the phone for people with thick finger tips. The Chinese version they say will not have 3G or even WiFi. There is no 3.5 mm jack instead the mini USB has a mini USB to 3.5 mm connector for the job.

The screen res is 360 x 640. Mini3 has Bluetooth, mini USB and microSD slot. There is no QWERTY keyboard instead the device has an onscreen keyboard besides the usual handwriting recognition ability. The phone is sleek and impressive looks. More pictures can be viewed at the 163  Chinese website.

dell-logo We have heard about Nokia plunging in to the NetBook field, that was certainly a news maker, now it is Dell that plans to launch a mobile phone somewhere in 2010. This isn’t one bit surprising because we were always wondering why hadn’t Dell done this before? And now Michael Dell has unveiled plans to launch a smart phone for the US market. The announcement was made at the FiReGlobal a few days back by the CEO himself who went on to talk about the importance of a mobile device for the company’s ever bright future.

Much details aren’t known about the device, the specs and whether it will be Android based or will run on  Windows Mobile 7. Dell has a sizeable share in the PC market and a mobile device will not only augment its share but have a good impact on the overall business also. It has been made public that China Mobile will launch the device and rumors about AT&T might well be unfounded. Surprisingly the last Dell Mini 3i was also launched in China for China Mobile this time now they are setting the US market in the crosshairs.

Sprint-HTC-Hero-Android-smartphone October 2009 happens to be a very important month, somehow. We have Microsoft releasing Windows 7, Ubuntu releasing Karmic Koala and now it is HTC’s Android based Hero Smartphone hitting the shelves on 11 October in connivance with Sprint. The Hero is no ordinary phone, it is smart by all standards. Upon release and further use it will become clear how it fares against the iPhone, Blackberry or even the Windows Mobile 6.5 based devices. The phone has WLAN, GPS, a 5 MP camera, 3.2” screen, 2 GB memory (expandable via microSD card), USB support, Bluetooth, handwriting recognition, trackball, ability to sync with Google services like Gmail/Google maps, push email, music download from Amazon’s mp3 store and stereo Bluetooth to name a few.

It seems Android is going strong, if the media reports are anything to go by. We have Motorola’s Cliq coming out somewhere in November, Samsung’s Moment, and even Dell planning anandroid Android based device in collaboration with AT&T, besides Sony eying the Android. As if all this wasn’t enough there is even talk of Google and Verizon teaming up for more Android based gizmos. This sounds really good for Google, things are looking up we guess. Dell’s party may also include T-Mobile. The buzz is that Google is coming out be a strong contender for iPhone, in the coming years off course. We are keeping our fingers crossed, everything takes time!

DellAdamoXPS Which is the thinnest, slimmest and the lightest of them all, I mean a notebook or a laptop? I’ll wager your answer is MacBook Air, right? Wrong! The Dell Adamo puts even the Air to shame. Allow me to use the word “painfully thin” for it, because that is exactly what it is. It is just 9.99 mm or 0.40” thick or thin, if you will. See the picture to get the picture. Now what could be thinner than this? a paper off course. Details regarding specs and innards are scarce and missing. But I can bet my old jacket that it won’t come with an optical drive at least, battery off course will be there. Don’t expect a floppy drive also, well they are almost obsolete. And the price well we can only imagine, not good for the faint hearted to know anyway :-)

dell-logo Dell has launched  a bold and ambitious program for would be PC buyers. According to official sources any person buying a new Dell laptop like Inspiron 15 or 17 or even 546 will get Windows 7 pre-installed by Dell on is/her machine. This off course is being done at no additional cost. Dell aims to make it easier for the customers to switch over to the new OS and get on with their digital lives. These PCs already come loaded with Windows Vista and therefore the upgrade is for free and there are no hassled attached to it. Buyers can also opt to forego the Dell supervised installation upon which their machines will be shipped with un upgrade kit. This is generally meant for those (techies) who want to have a go at Windows 7 themselves. The machines will be shipped around 22nd October, let us see if it is worth the wait! If you already own a netbook from DELL, ASUS, HP or any other brand  then chances are that it will have Windows XP loaded on it,  and XP on netbooks still sounds slow and sluggish as compared to light weight ubuntu, as netbooks lacks the super horse power packed in normal notebooks. Every PC enthusiast who either owns a PC, laptop or a netbook is eagerly waiting for Windows 7, the latest OS from Microsoft claiming to be innovative and better in all aspects.

windows-7-netbook

Now finally Microsoft is heeding to the needs of netbook users and the word is that the upcoming Windows 7 will come with a specific netbook version, will be light enough for netbooks and will pack most of the  functionality required by hardware and software vendors. Does this mean that Microsoft is considering yet another version of Windows 7 for netbooks, this remains to be seen in upcoming days. Microsoft is under pressure from Intel and other Netbook manufacturers to release cheaper windows 7 for notebooks, to keep the overall prices of netbooks down and keep sales continue and growing.

This news is a sigh of relief amid the reports that Microsoft was considering to cut down functionality of Windows 7 for netbooks due to the pricing factor. However, what really is the final word from Microsoft about windows 7 for netbooks remain to be seen. We’ll keep you posted on this one.
