Firefox is probably the most evolving, widely used and treated as the best browser in the market and also the fastest one. Originally, developed by some students and ultimately, converting into an enterprise, Mozilla is continuously going through rapid development by, continuously, introducing newer and better version of Firefox. We, recently, saw the full & final version of Firefox 6. The beta version of next version of Firefox is always available for download in the market after the release of every final release every 6 weeks. Mozilla has developed some browsers, e.g. Aurora and Nightly for developers so that they can test their new extensions and add-ons by using them and making sure the final release does not carry any bugs.
I am a fan of Firefox Nightly as it is much faster than the full versions. The reason of the fact that only few add-ons are supported in Nightly is that Mozilla keeps on rolling updates for Firefox Nightlies. As an user I frequently find updates and install them but recently I saw an update upgrading the Firefox Nightly 9 to 10. This update healed some of the security problems found in previous versions.
The new version of Firefox, available for different platforms, can be downloaded here.
Note: Currently, Mozilla is providing Firefox 9.0a1 but after installation you can update the version by following the steps specified below:
- Click the Nightly button on the top left side of your screen.
- Hover over the help menu. In the sub menu click ‘About Nightly’
- You would notice the nightly version 9.0a1. Click check for updates or the updates may start downloading automatically.
- After downloading all 18MB you would be asked to restart Nightly in-order to install the updates.
- Restart Nightly and go to ‘help > about nightly’ again and see Nightly version 10.0a1
Unfortunately, this version of Firefox does not support any add-ons which mean you will have to switch back to full version in-order to take advantage of add-ons. But, if you prefer speed, then disable the add-on compatibility check on start up by following the instruction which can be found here.
