Are you ready? I bet you are.

First here are some of the requirements you’d need for the process

- Windows operating system (XP, Vista or 7)
- Flurry Icon set that you can get here.
- Fences that you can get here.
- And Paint.net for photo editing that you can get here. (If you have Photoshop, that’ll work too)

If you have them all up and running, you are now ready to make transform you same old Windows desktop into a more gorgeous looking iPad screen and here are the steps:

Step 1: Prepare your icons and desktop

Windows 7 & Vista

1. Change the size of the your desktop icons to Large
Right click –> View –> Large icons

2. Align them on a grid
Right click –> View –> Align icons to grid

3. Make a shortcut to all desired programs that you want on your desktop
Start Menu –> Go to program –> Right click –> Send to desktop
or You can simply drag the programs to your desktop

Tip: If you want your desktop to look more organized, 16 apps would be preferred.

Windows XP

1. Change the size of the your desktop icons to Large

Right click –> Properties –> Appearance –> Advance –> Item –> Icon –> Change size to 72 –> Ok –> Apply –> Ok

2. Align them
Right click –> Arrange Icons By –> Check Auto Arrange –> Check Align to Grid

3. Make a shortcut to all desired programs that you want on your desktop
Start Menu –> Go to program –> Right click –> Send to desktop
or You can simply drag the programs to your desktop

Reminder: The resolution of Windows XP is not advisable, but if you still want this on your XP, then you may, but again, it’s not advisable because it will not look as nice as it will on a Vista or 7.

Step 2: Extract and Use your Flurry Icons

1. Go to your Downloads folder then extract
Downloads folder –> Right click –> Extract all

2. Then go to your desktop and change the icons
Program –> Right click –> Properties –> Change icon –> Look for the icons that you’ve extracted

Step 3: Editing your Wallpaper

1. Look for a background, this might do. Download it.
Right click on the picture –> Save as

2. Open your picture on Picture Manager
Click the picture –> Open with Picture Manager

3. Make the picture fit
Click Crop –> Get the digits right –> Save

4. Set as your desktop background
Right click –> Set as Desktop Background

Step 4: Shadows on your icons

1. Open your background image using Paint.Net
Go to the picture –> Right click –> Open with –> Paint.Net

2. Print screen your desktop
Go to desktop –> Press PrtSc or use other print screen software if this doesn’t work,      Snipping tool is a good one

3. Put the print screen on top of the picture without the icons
Open the screenshot on Paint.Net –> Copy it –> Paste it on the one without the icons.

4. Put a black square on the bottom of each icon
Square (found on the Tools Section) –> Draw a black square below each icon

Tip: You can copy and paste all the squares to make it easier and faster

5. When you’re done with your black squares, you can blur them now
Effects –> Blurs –> Gaussian Blur

Tip: 50 will be a good choice

6. Go to the layer without the screenshot and this will show a background with no icons only shadows, and save it
Go to the layer without icons –> Click Save As –> Change the name –> Save

7. Set it as your background
Click the photo –> Right click –> Set as Desktop Background

Tip: If you think that the shadow is darker than what you wanted, you can change it on Paint.Net.

Step 5: Glow them up

1. Take the layer with the icons and without the shadows first.

2. Delete everything around the icons
Click the Rectangle icon (on the Tools Section) –> Draw a rectangle on the parts you want to delete

3. After deleting everything with only the icons left, blur your icons
Effects –> Blurs –> Gaussian Blur

Tip: 25 would do.

4. Enable the shadow in the glow, then save

5. Set as desktop background
Click the photo –> Right click –> Set as Desktop Background

Step 6: Why get Fences (Optional)

The reason why you’d want to use the Fences is for your desktop to look more or organized. This application will allow you to hide other desktop icons that you won’t like to be on youre iPad-looking desktop. Remember, this will hide your folders and other stuff but won’t delete them. For you to enable Fences on your icons, this is what you should do

1. Exclude them from Fences Quick Hide
Click on the icon –> Right click –> Exclude from Fences Quick hide

Here’s the video to make it clearer because honestly, it’s quite hard to put them on words.
