PITB is about to finish the construction of Lahore Technology Park which is pitched as premier IT location and hub for Software development and technology space of Punjab. The project has been delayed quite much but now it is nearing completion and holds lot of potential for Technology companies. Since Lahore is hub of technology in Punjab and there are many software and telecom technology companies operating here, a centralized location for these companies was ever needed after space in Software technology Park ( Kahayaban-e-Iqbal ) ran out few years ago. This led to planning and construction of new facility i.e. Lahore Technology park which stands high ( 2nd highest building in Pakistan measuring 106 meters and comprising of 17 stories) in Lahore on ferozepur road near Model Town Lahore. This is a state of the art and purpose build building for pure IT technology companies which bring in huge volume of foreign currency reserves and investments from international and global IT players.
The IT industry in Pakistan is vital and is now playing a key role in providing high pay jobs and also exposing Pakistan as one of a good provider of high tech resources. Lot of global IT companies are preferring Pakistan for their IT outsourcing due to lower costs and high quality.
Previously Islamabad was serving as major destination for IT companies but after the deteriorating situation of security in federal city the prospect of setting up IT companies reduced substantially. Additionally the costs are much higher in Islamabad as compared to Lahore. The IT companies have mushroomed in Lahore over the last few years and IT entrepreneurs do not have many viable options when it comes to selecting a infrastructure location where all fundamental IT and general related facilities are available under one roof. given the situation I think Lahore Technology Park is ideal for IT company setup and can help in boosting Pakistan’s economy and providing high tech jobs.
The work on this mega project started in 2008 and has been stalled due to multiple reasons in past but recently pace of development has been fast and project is nearing completion. check out few of the most recent pictures of this purpose built building below.
The exterior of this building is quite finished as evident from the above picture, however, there is lot of furnishing work inside left to do and is in progress.
